Famous Man, Small Dog Part 1: The Ballad of Mickey and Loki

Mickey Rourke is known for a number of things – his acting, in films like Sin City and The Wrestler, his face, which has been positively identified as the cause of 93% of all nightmares, and most notably, his undying love for a tiny dog named Loki.

Loki, a chihuahua-terrier mix, was a gift to the actor from his second wife, whom he later divorced, after finding that only the shaky little shit machine his spouse had given him could properly satisfy his love-hunger. “Loki is the love of my life,” Rourke told reporters at the Venice Film Festival. Rourke went on to thank his dogs in his Golden Globes acceptance speech after winning the award for Best Actor, saying, “I’d like to thank all my dogs, the ones who are here and the ones who aren’t here anymore … Sometimes, when a man is alone, that’s all you got is your dog. And they’ve meant the world to me.”

Loki passed away in February of 2009, and never since has there been a love so pure.

  1. Is it just me or does the dog actually resemble Mickey Rourke, circa The Wrestler? Weird.
